Phoenix Suns Career Panel

On November 3, 100 Sports Marketing Association and Sports Management students headed north to participate in a rotational career panel with Phoenix Suns staffers who work in human resources, marketing and advertising, and season tickets. Following the panel, the students enjoyed a game and then headed back down to Tucson. Student Jeff Robin was instrumental in organizing the event, which went through a series of twists and turns before it came together, “without a hitch.” [read full blog entry]

- Congratulations to Bob Lusch, Muzzy Chair in Entrepreneurship and executive director of the McGuire Center for Entrepreneurship… along with Stephen L. Vargo, Lusch has been awarded the Sheth Foundation/Journal of Marketing Award. The award recognizes scholarship based on contributions and outcomes made to marketing theory and practice. Their paper, “Evolving to a New Dominant Logic for Marketing” (Journal of Marketing, January 2004), has been cited over 1,400 times since its publication.
- Assistant professor of accounting Kirsten Cook has been recognized with the 2010 Excellence in Teaching Award by the Arizona Society of Certified Public Accountants.
- Professional Women’s Magazine ranked the Eller MBA among its picks for the top 25 business programs for women.
- Congrats to Vic Piscitello’s sales communication class for topping the Altria Sales Competition for the third year in a row!

Outgoing Dean Paul Portney Recognized with Distinguished Achievement Award
Eller College of Management dean and Halle Chair in Leadership Paul Portney was recognized this month with the Distinguished Achievement Award by the Society for Risk Analysis, a membership organization with cross-sector representation including government, academia, and industry. [more]
Leslie Eldenburg to Take Eller Reins as Interim Dean
Leslie Eldenburg, the vice dean of the college, will begin January 1 as the interim dean at Eller until a permanent replacement for Portney is in place. Three finalists for the deanship have been interviewed. Eldenburg said if these three candidates are satisfactory to the Eller faculty, their names will be forwarded to the provost, who will make the selection. [more]
ELITE Students Turn Marketing Exercise into Fundraiser for Steele Children's Research Center
This semester, a group of high-achieving pre-business freshmen took on the first-ever Eller Apprentice 4Ps of Marketing Student Competition. Proceeds of the event, which topped $1,000, benefited Steele Children’s Research Center. [more]
