MIS Department Answers Demand for Information Security Expertise
By Liz Warren-Pederson
Nearly three-quarters of organizations believe they have adequate policies in place to protect personal information, yet more than half have lost sensitive data within the past two years — and nearly 60 percent of those organizations acknowledge data loss as a recurring problem, according to a recent global report from Accenture.
There is growing demand for IT professionals with expertise in information systems security. In response to that demand, Eller’s top-ranked Department of Management Information Systems (MIS) has launched a new online certificate program aimed at working professionals who want to stay at the top of the IT security game.
In less than a year, professionals can earn an Enterprise Security Certificate from the department, which holds a designation as a Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education by the National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security.
Through MISonline, students will gain the critical knowledgethey need to secure information and information systems in the areas of confidentiality, integrity, and availability. Each course is ten weeks in length and students earn Committee on National Security Systems certificates for successful course completions. The first course, Privacy, Information Security, and Risk Analysis, began on May 17 and will conclude in July.
Application information, course calendar, and more information is available online at www.misonline.eller.arizona.edu.
