Academics, Leadership Earn Eller Students Awards

Four Eller College students have earned GEICO Achievement Awards for excelling academically and for their leadership skills on campus.
Students Jenna Oertle, Travis Lovrien, Laura Lelicoff, and Aleksey Chernobelskiy were awarded $1,000 each for their contributions to the campus community and their academic distinction.
Chernobelskiy was born in Moscow and moved to the U.S. ten years ago seeking better educational opportunities. He is now a senior and Honors College student majoring in finance, accounting, economics, and mathematics.
“GEICO has recognized what many other companies have known — that the talent and promise of UA graduates is unparalleled. GEICO’s involvement with UA Career Services has led to the strong success of so many students going to work here in Arizona,” said Keith Humphrey, assistant vice president for student affairs and assistant professor of practice and coordinator of the UA master’s program in higher education.
The GEICO Achievement Award Program requires students to be undergraduates attending an accredited four-year college or university, possess sophomore or junior status, have a 3.0 overall GPA or higher, demonstrate academic excellence in business courses, and demonstrate leadership within their campus or community.
This year GEICO recognized 64 college and university students from throughout the country for the achievements they demonstrated during the 2010-11 academic year.
“We know that the future belongs to those who prepare,” said GEICO chairman Tony Nicely. “These students are preparing themselves for professional success through their academic accomplishments and leadership abilities. They’re building a very strong foundation, and we congratulate them on their achievements thus far.”
