ECA E-Mentoring Program

What is E-Mentoring?

E-Mentoring is a semester-long mentoring program in which you can partner with an Eller College of Management student to develop a professional relationship. The vision of E-Mentoring is to provide a mentorship environment that will aid the development of academic and personal goals, and to create a resource for students and professionals to enhance the skills needed to effectively build operational relationships centered on respect, communication, and personal growth.

There are two ways to participate in the E-Mentoring program:

1. Through one-to-one mentoring with a professional student
2. Through one-to-many mentoring with E.L.I.T.E. members

One-to-One Mentoring with a Professional Student

Through the E-Mentoring Program, you will develop an ongoing professional relationship with an upper-division business student interested in developing a better understanding of the professional business world. The mentorship will include weekly online discussions with one upper-division business student on suggested topics. Through this program you will be matched with a student having similar career path and industry interests.

Structure: The relationship will kick off with an online orientation and continue with online discussions throughout the semester utilizing Blackboard, an online course management program.

Some topics that are presented through the program and help establish a professional relationship are:

  • Mentor’s present job overview and career goals
  • Mentor’s organization/company and industry
  • Mentor’s prior experience and preparation
  • Ways to prepare for a career in your field

One-to-Many Mentoring with E.L.I.T.E. Members

E.L.I.T.E. (Eller Leadership and Integrity Training for Excellence Program) is comprised of a group of outstanding students who have been selected by Undergraduate Programs Associate Dean Pam Perry and the Eller Leadership Board. Approximately 50 students were selected from the entire incoming freshman class based on involvement and leadership in high school. The purpose of this group is to develop a leadership program for our first-semester freshmen Pre-Business students.

Through this program, you will be matched with a group of approximately five ELITE students. You will connect with your group of students mainlyas one group rather than individually; this gives students the opportunity to network and connect with their fellow peers, as well.

Structure

The relationship will take place over one fall semester, beginning with a kick-off in September and continuing through online discussions, virtual meetings, and in-person sessions if the mentor is available.

Some topics that are suggested to help establish a professional mentoring relationship are:

  • Preparing for internships
  • How to network in college
  • Making the most of your college experience
  • Major exploration and how your major affected your career path
  • Planning and goal-setting
  • Resume and cover letter development
  • Interview skills
  • Ways to prepare for a career in your field

If you feel you would be a better match for a more short-term experience, please consider our Job Shadow Program, in which students are paired with you in your work setting for a day-long visit.
