Steven Stralser condenses 2 years into 1 day.
Dr. Steven Stralser (BS '67) has just published a book with a title that's been the caffeine-induced wish of many third-semester students in the fog of a late-night study session: MBA In A Day.
Subtitled What You Would Learn at Top-Tier Business Schools (If You Only Had the Time!), the book offers lessons in economics, management, marketing, and other cornerstones of an MBA program.
“The idea for MBA In A Day started when I was teaching marketing in the MBA program at Eller College,” Stralser recalls. “I noticed how many professionals—particularly doctors—were taking my course.”
Based on this realization—that many successful physicians, lawyers, non-profit executives, and other professionals lacked a critical understanding of business fundamentals—Stralser developed a popular 1-day seminar, the class that laid the foundation for the current book of the same name.
A 1999-2000 Fulbright grantee, Stralser is currently Clinical Professor and Managing Director, The Global Entrepreneurship Center at Thunderbird: The Garvin School of International Management.
Ron Williams takes on growth.
Ron Williams (MBA '99) knows something about growth. As Manager of Business Development at GE Energy in Atlanta, Georgia, his job is to fill gaps in GE's product and service offerings by a) leading teams that evaluate potential acquisitions and joint ventures and b) if all checks out, executing the deals.
Williams credits his Eller MBA with giving him the foundation needed to succeed in this role: "In my line of work, not only do we evaluate the financial position of a business, but we also look at human resources, IT, manufacturing, etc. An MBA helps you understand the interdependencies between the different areas and thus make better decisions."
While his accomplishments at GE Energy have been great, Williams' biggest challenge may well lie ahead. In January, he and his wife became proud parents to twin girls, Paris and Aspen.
