Rockwell, Trombley, Cummins and Mills Honored for Innovation and Excellence

The Eller College’s highest honors for faculty achievement in the classroom were awarded to four outstanding educators at the National Board of Advisors meeting April 16th. The Dean’s Award for Course Innovation and the Dean’s Award for Teaching Excellence were established to recognize faculty at any stage in their career, who bring an uncommon commitment to placing Eller at the forefront of undergraduate and graduate business education. The 2004 winners:

Dean’s Award for Course Innovation

Joann Rockwell, McGuire Entrepreneurship Programs Coordinator
MBA – Edinburgh University, Scotland

Ms. Rockwell, with 20 years of experience in MBA education in entrepreneurship, international business, product development and marketing, was honored for her groundbreaking work in linking Eller MBAs to UA technology transfer.

Mark A. Trombley, Associate Professor of Accounting
Ph.D. - University of Washington

A master teacher of financial statement analysis and managerial accounting, Dr. Trombley posts and regularly updates an annotated list of useful online resources for company information, stocks and tips for investors on his personal Web site.

Dean’s Award for Teaching Excellence

Suzanne Cummins, Lecturer, Management and Policy
J.D. – University of California, San Francisco

Known for her humor in the classroom and unyielding in her academic standards, Professor Cummins introduced an Eller undergraduate requirement integrating business fundamentals with law and ethics that draws on alumni and real-world dilemmas for course content.

Lillian Mills, Associate Professor of Accounting
Ph.D. – University of Michigan

Dr. Mills brings a palpable passion for corporate taxation and compliance in financial reporting to the classroom and has been rewarded for teaching excellence five times previously, by Eller students and by the Society of CPAs. Her most recent work was instrumental in changing IRS Schedule M-1 to reduce loopholes in corporate tax reporting.
