Berger Foundation Funds Technology Upgrades and Student Scholarships

Supporter of the Eller College since December 1990, with its first gift of $132,000 to the Karl Eller Center for the Study of Private Enterprise, the H.N. & Frances C. Berger Foundation has subsequently donated over $6 million to the center and College, and has given its name to the Karl Eller Center's award-winning entrepreneurship program.

In March 2003, the Berger Foundation made an endowed $3 million gift and with it requested a name change for the entrepreneurship program to the Chris and Carol McGuire Entrepreneurship Program, in honor of UA graduates Chris and Carol McGuire. Chris McGuire has been director of the Berger Foundation for the last decade. The Berger Foundation and the McGuires have been guiding lights in defining the discipline of entrepreneurship education and developing the Eller entrepreneurship program.

It is normal for many philanthropic organizations to take a break after making such a substantial gift, but not Berger. In 2004, thanks to the work of Chris McGuire, the Berger Foundation provided an additional $225,000 in support of the Eller College, which will be dedicated to the MBA scholarships and the construction of a state-of-the-art business communication lab. The scholarships will strengthen our capacity to compete for the finest MBAs in the nation while the lab will provide instructional space and presentation technology for honing public speaking skills and preparing for employment interviews. Together, they represent another step forward in improving our national stature.

The H.N. & Frances C. Berger Foundation is among the Eller College's longest standing partners in pursuing our goal of becoming one of the finest management schools in the country.  We are immensely proud of our relationship with such a great organization.
