On May 14, Peter W. Salter, President and Chief Executive Officer of Salter Labs, and his wife Nancy presented a check for $25,000 to Eller College Interim Dean Ken Smith and College of Engineering Dean Tom Peterson. A strong believer in the still-growing partnership between the two colleges, Mr. Salter earmarked his gift for supporting collaboration between engineering and business faculty.
Mr. Salter’s interest in supporting faculty grew from his experience with Eller and College of Engineering summer interns hired by his firm the past two years. Saying that he “could not be happier with the results,” Salter will offer more internships this summer and plans to turn to both programs for hiring when permanent positions open up. In presenting the gift he told the two deans that he is genuinely impressed with our students’ capacity to make a difference during summer internships and very pleased with their technical and management skills.
As a leader in its industry, Salter Labs exemplifies the value of merging technology and management education. Over the past three decades, Salter’s technical excellence and business expertise have resulted in the introduction of more than 150 new products, many with industry leading patents. These unique designs have improved clinical efficiency, patient comfort and treatment cost-effectiveness in the anesthesia and respiratory care arenas. Salter products are used daily in acute care, extended care, rehabilitation and homecare settings worldwide. We are proud to call Peter Salter a friend.
