L. Ben Lytle Named 2004 University of Arizona Executive of the Year

image, L. Ben Lytle was named the 2004 University of Arizona Executive of the Year.Over 400 business and university leaders gathered at Tucson’s Loews Ventana Canyon Resort April 16th to honor L. Ben Lytle as the 2004 Executive of the Year. The award is bestowed annually on national leaders who exemplify exceptional achievement in private enterprise and public service. Lytle, known as a champion for affordable health care coverage, has been a leader in the health insurance industry for over 25 years.

He led Anthem, Inc. from an Indiana subsidiary of Blue Cross/Blue Shield to a publicly traded company. Today Anthem is the fourth largest publicly traded health insurance company in the U.S., providing benefits to more than 11.9 million people. Beginning there as chief information officer in 1979, Lytle served as CEO from 1989 to 1999. Now chairman emeritus, he is also the board’s presiding director. An active member of many boards, including Eller’s National Board of Advisors, he has also served the College as Executive-in-Residence and is a frequent guest lecturer.
