Partnering within the UniversitySome of the most important partnerships at the Eller College are with other entities in the UA system. The Management and Technology Initiative at the Eller College involves partnerships with the Colleges of Engineering, Science, Agriculture and Life Sciences, Pharmacy, and Medicine. Together, the colleges are working to develop joint educational programs to better prepare students throughout the university for success in the convergence of business and technology. Currently the College is also partnering with the College of Fine Arts’ Hanson Film Institute in an initiative exploring film and television as creative and industrial forces. Eller College will bring entrepreneurial management expertise to the partnership for projects that successfully integrate the creative and business aspects of filmmaking. Eller College also partners with UA entities to advance research. For example, our partnership with the Arizona Cancer Center is yielding important gains in bioinformatics and data management related to understanding and combating cancer. Our partnership with the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences explores deception detection and text mining in linguistics and communication, research with significant implications for national security and counter-terrorism. Private Sector PartnershipsEller College has longstanding partnerships with commercial technology leaders like IBM, whose financial support decades ago helped launch the groundbreaking MIS work in group systems and today is funding equally important research in distributed data challenges. At the same time, the College is fostering new relationships with companies such as Lands’ End, which has worked with Eller College on issues related to customer preferences modeling, data mangement and telecommuting. Public Sector PartnershipsEller College’s longterm partnership with the Tucson Police Department was a key component of work in security informatics and the technology underlying COPLINK, a tool for improving the speed and effectiveness of criminal investigations by integrating data across multiple jurisdictions. Eller College also works with organizations such as Junior Achievement, the world's largest non-profit economic education organization, by teaching math and business in elementary schools and sponsoring programs to recognize outstanding leadership. Economic Business and ResearchThe Economic and Business Research Center (EBR) at the Eller College collaborates with both public and private sector institutions on research and reports. Partnering with Compass Bank through the Compass on Business program, the Center surveys business leaders and analyzes the data to compile the Arizona’s Business Leaders' Confidence Index (BLCI), a quarterly update on what Arizona business leaders are thinking. In a longstanding relationship with Bank One, the Center produces a series of Eller College/Bank One Business Forums that address state, local, national, and international issues affecting the economic health of Arizona residents and businesses. Bank One also provides ongoing financial support for EBR’s award-winning website. The Forecasting Project, formed in 1979, is supported by more than twenty public sector agencies and forward-looking private sector companies who join EBR researchers in understanding and forecasting the state and local economies.
