Eller College takes Executive Education to Phoenix

Non-degree courses complement Phoenix-based Executive MBA success, offering distinct professional development options for Valley business executives

TUCSON, Ariz. – OCTOBER 16, 2006 – Executives seeking to enhance their management skills now have a new option for leadership development in Phoenix, Ariz. Beginning in December 2006, the Eller College of Management at The University of Arizona is taking its non-degree executive education series to the Valley of the Sun.

Building on the successful launch of its Phoenix Executive MBA program (EMBA), the Eller College of Management will inaugurate the Phoenix Executive Education series. Drawing on curriculum enhancements from the College’s modular EMBA, business leaders will be offered short courses on critical business topics. The series begins with “Negotiation and Conflict Management Strategies for Executives” Dec. 11 – 13, 2006, at the Hyatt Regency Phoenix. A second program, “Financial and Accounting Decision Making for Non-Financial Executives,” will be offered Feb. 26 – 28, 2007, also at the Hyatt Regency. Both programs will be offered at a cost of $1950 each.

“There is a burgeoning need by companies in Arizona’s rapidly growing economy for ongoing, critical examination of today’s business challenges. We believe we will provide a valuable service by taking Eller College’s faculty expertise to the Phoenix business community,” said Shyam Jha, director of executive education at the Eller College of Management. “Valley executives can benefit from our internationally recognized faculty, sharing their research and industry experience, without having to travel to Tucson (Ariz.)”

The Eller College Executive Education series, designed for executives as well as senior and mid-level managers, was introduced on The University of Arizona campus in Tucson, Ariz. in May 2006 with the course “Leadership and Negotiation Strategies for Executives.” Twenty-four business executives from companies including Honeywell International, Inc., Emerson, Wells Fargo Bank, and Compass Bank, and senior leaders from U.S. Air Force participated. The Phoenix Executive Education series will be offered on a regular basis, and new and unique programs will be added.

“We are pleased to offer the expertise of our excellent faculty to Phoenix area executives,” said Paul Portney, dean of the College. “The Eller College has successfully filled a niche in the Phoenix market with the unique 14-month Executive MBA. Eller Executive Education offerings take a unique curriculum and make it accessible to the busy business professional in the form of short professional development courses.”

The Phoenix Executive Education series will be taught by internationally recognized faculty members from the Eller College. The inaugural Phoenix course will be taught by Russell Cropanzano, Ph.D., the Brian Lesk Professor of Organizational Behavior at the Eller College of Management, and Barry Goldman, Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of Management and Organizations at the College. Both faculty members have international reputations for their research in organizational management. “Financial and Accounting Decision Making for Non-Financial Executives” will be taught by Accounting Department faculty members Mark Trombley, Ph.D., the Beach Fleischman Professor, and Leslie Eldenburg, Ph.D., the McCoy-Rogers Fellow and associate professor.
