Chevron CTO named 2006 Technology Executive of
the Year
Chevron's Donald L. Paul will receive the Technology Executive
of the Year Award on October 27 and talk about development of huge
oil reserves in the Gulf of Mexico
Last month, Chevron pumped the first oil from a Gulf of Mexico discovery
that could become the biggest source of domestic oil since the Alaskan
pipeline opened in 1977. Donald L. Paul, Chevron's chief technology
officer, cites development of this oil field as "a recent example
of the pivotal role that technology plays in developing new sources
of energy."
Paul will have more to say about the discovery and the role that
technology will play in the evolution of the energy industry during
his keynote speech at UA's 8th annual Technology
and Management Awards Luncheon (TMAL) on Friday, October 27, in Phoenix, Ariz. The luncheon,
which also honors four other technology/business leaders, will be
held at the Arizona Biltmore Resort & Spa.
"The Jack #2 well was completed in 7,000 feet of water and
more than 20,000 feet under the sea floor," Paul said of the
Gulf of Mexico effort. "This appraisal well, which broke more
than half a dozen world records, demonstrates Chevron's leading position
employing deepwater exploration technology to develop new supplies
of U.S. crude oil and natural gas.”
Paul says Chevron is investing across the energy spectrum to help
meet the world's growing energy needs. Technology is a key driver
in all of these investments, allowing Chevron to access hydrocarbons
in challenging locations like the deepwater Gulf of Mexico, to unlock
the value of unconventional resources such as the Alberta oil sands
and the Colorado oil shales, and to diversify the fuel supply through
research and development into biofuels, hydrogen, solar and other
energy sources.
The 2006 Technology Executive of the Year award that Paul will receive
in Phoenix is presented by The University of Arizona’s College
of Engineering and Eller College of Management.
