Popular UA professor featured in BusinessWeek
Eller College students name Vic Piscitello as their favorite professor in magazine survey
TUCSON, Ariz. – October 9, 2007 – Eller College of Management marketing instructor Vic Piscitello caught the attention of BusinessWeek magazine and landed a feature article in its online publication after participants in the magazine’s student survey cited him as a favorite professor.
BusinessWeek annually surveys undergraduate business students to help determine its national ranking of business programs. Eller College undergrads named Piscitello as their favorite professor in the 2007 survey, prompting the article which appears online at http://www.businessweek.com/bschools/content/
Piscitello spent more than 20 years in corporate America before coming to the Eller College as an adjunct lecturer in 2002. His real-world experience, showmanship, and contagious enthusiasm are a winning combination for the students who take his classes. “He has an uncanny ability to interact with a packed lecture hall,” said senior Amelia Gitter. “Four hundred students pay attention and contribute to class every single day.”
"I call on a minimum of 10 different people in the ‘peanut gallery' every day in order to increase their anxiety," Piscitello told BusinessWeek reporter Kristen Fiani. "I like to keep them on their toes.”
“Vic is a teacher who has a knack for demanding excellence from his students while still connecting on a personal level,” said Stan Reynolds, Eller College vice dean. “He invests time into learning about his students as individuals, inviting them to office hours for chats and bagels, advising student clubs, and engaging them in out-of-class discussions about assignments – and his hometown team, the Chicago Bears.”
“Most of my students will enter corporate America. I’m able to give them a glimpse of what their experience will be,” said Piscitello. “My classes are demanding, but all of my students have the potential to achieve above-average grades. The greatest variable is whether they want to put forth the effort.”
