Can we avoid recession?

Eller College of Management economists offer expert analysis at the 2008-2009 Economic Outlook Forecast Luncheon

TUCSON, Ariz. – NOVEMBER 28, 2007 – Will recent actions by the Fed be enough to curtail recession? How long before the good times return? Noted economists from the Eller College of Management tackle these questions and more at the annual Economic Outlook Luncheon on Friday, December 7, 2007.

The Arizona economy lost significant momentum in recent months, and hopes of an early recovery from the homebuilding slowdown have evaporated as repercussions from the subprime mortgage crisis spread to broader financial markets. The malaise has reached the labor markets, consumer spending is falling along with confidence, and the recent explosion in tax collections seems like a distant memory. With these factors at play, what can business leaders expect to face in 2008-2009?

The community is invited to join Eller College economists Gerald J. Swanson, holder of the Thomas R. Brown Chair in Economic Education, and Marshall J. Vest, director of the Economic and Business Research Center, as they present their forecast for 2008-2009.

Registration for the luncheon will begin at 11:30 a.m. in the foyer of the Grand Canyon Room at the Westin La Paloma, 3800 East Sunrise Drive in Tucson, Ariz.  Please RSVP online at www.eller.arizona.edu/outlook by Friday, November 30, 2007. Tickets are $75 per person or $750 per table.

MEDIA NOTE: A press conference is scheduled prior to the luncheon beginning at 11:00 a.m. in the Aster I Room at the Westin La Paloma. Reporters, please call Linda Herrick at 520.626.2590 to reserve your seat.
