Jailene Morales BSBA ‘24 (Business Management) was a Business Development Representative at Oracle Netsuite in Santa Monica, California.

What was the process for getting this internship, job, or summer experience?

In the Spring of 2022, my journey with Oracle NetSuite commenced. It initiated with my participation in an online Eller Expo event, during which Oracle NetSuite delivered a presentation on one of the scheduled days. While attending this presentation, I learned that they were primarily seeking junior-level candidates, which posed a challenge as I was a sophomore at that time. Determined to pursue this opportunity, I submitted my application the following semester, in which I found I missed the window for the spring internship.

To my pleasant surprise, in the early spring, I received a call from one of the managers who had interviewed me previously. They extended an offer for the summer internship, and without hesitation, I accepted the position with enthusiasm and gratitude.

What was your favorite part of the experience?

My favorite part of the internship was collaborating with a prestigious Pro Bono Program. Together with my peers, comprising of Business Development Representative Interns and Account Managers at NetSuite, we undertook the task of creating a comprehensive presentation. This presentation was meticulously designed to outline a systematic strategy for marketing a program to two distinct audiences: high school students and other Pro Bono Programs.

What advice do you have for other students looking for a similar experience, or advice for future students to be successful?

A piece of advice I have for other students looking for a similar experience is to never accept rejection. Receiving a rejection from a perspective employer should serve as a catalyst for continued effort and a proactive approach in jumping on opportunities.

How did Eller prepare you for this experience?

Eller played a pivotal role in preparing me for this professional experience. Through the guidance of professors and other supporting staff, I acquired the skills and confidence to refine my professional persona ensuring that it aligned with the expectation of the business world. This encompassed refining my resume to meet industry standards, honing my communication and elevator pitch, and practicing the art of effective networking, allowing me to take on valuable opportunities.
