Victoria Koch BSBA ‘25 (Finance & Management Information Systems) was a Global Intern at Atturra in Sydney, Australia.

If you worked on a big project during your internship, please describe what you did to help.

The company I am interning for recently purchased multiple companies and they needed to make sure that they all use the same accounting system to create a company-wide standard. I helped during this process by creating new legal entities on Microsoft Finance Operations and getting them ready for foreign data to be imported. This involved a variety of steps, such as setting up the opening journal entries, creating invoice templates, and entering customer and vendor information. I also helped clean and prepare data.

What did you find most challenging about your internship?

Something I found most challenging about my internship was being tasked with assignments that I had never done and wasn’t sure how to complete. I had to ask many questions and keep in close communication with my coworkers. However, everyone was incredibly kind and ready to help. This made the work environment less intimidating and helped me feel more comfortable.

What advice do you have for other students who are also considering interning abroad?

My advice for other students considering studying abroad is to thoroughly research the company you will be working for and try to understand how they operate before the first day. It is crucial to have a good idea of the basic functions of a firm before beginning work. I also suggest that students use the first few days to familiarize themselves with the city. This way, students will feel more comfortable about directions and common knowledge about the city.

How did Eller (or your previous coursework) prepare you for your internship?

Eller prepared me for this internship by giving me exposure to professional settings and helping me network with others. Accounting 200 and Accounting 210 also helped me a lot, as I used many of the concepts taught in these classes during my internship. Additionally, BNAD 276 helped me prepare, as it gave me valuable Excel skills that are used in the workspace. I am very grateful for this preparation because it made me feel more prepared and qualified for the internship.
